Rosemary and Parmesan Cheese Popcorn Recipe

A great way to make popcorn more gourmet is by adding cheese to it. With this rosemary Parmesan recipe we go for the simple method of adding a tasty herb and some great cheese to traditional buttered popcorn.

This rosemary and Parmesan cheese popcorn recipe combines several different flavors to create a fantastic taste. The popcorn serves as the base for the flavors. The Parmesan cheese adds some great saltiness and also unami (a savory taste) to the popcorn while the butter provides richness. The rosemary adds a great herby flavor and many subtle undertones.

If you prefer your popcorn a little more healthy you can use a good olive oil instead of the butter in this Parmesan cheese popcorn recipe. You can also use a little less salt because of the salt present in the Parmesan cheese.

The process is very easy. You just combine the chopped rosemary with the butter before you melt it so the flavors infuse together. Finely shred the Parmesan cheese before cooking the popcorn, I recommend a microplane or the small holes on a box grater. When you sprinkle the popcorn with the butter also sprinkle with the Parmesan cheese. That's all there is to this Parmesan cheese popcorn recipe!

1 to 2 tablespoons butter or good olive oil
1.5 tablespoons fresh rosemary leaves
8 cups freshly popped popcorn (about 1/4 cup kernels)
2 to 4 tablespoons grated good Parmesan cheese
Salt, preferably kosher or sea salt

Parmesan Cheese Popcorn Instructions

Combine the rosemary and butter in a small sauce pan or microwave-safe dish. Melt the butter and set aside.

To finish the Parmesan cheese popcorn mix together the popcorn, butter, and grated Parmesan cheese. I usually put some popcorn in a bowl then drizzle some of the butter and Parmesan over top. I sprinkle a little salt then add more popcorn and butter. Repeating until the bowl is filled with Parmesan cheese popcorn.

I then use a spoon to finish mixing the Parmesan cheese popcorn.
